Moroccan Majlis Dubai: Adding Traditional Charm to My Home

Moroccan Majlis Dubai: Adding Traditional Charm to My Home

I wanted a traditional Arab seating area in my villa. I ordered a moroccan majlis dubai custom-made. The majlis consists of low seating arranged around the room: a long backrest (3m), L-shaped corner seats, and individual floor cushions. The upholstery is a rich red velvet with gold piping. The cushions are filled with high-density foam (firm but comfortable). My family now gathers in the majlis for coffee and conversation. For anyone wanting traditional Arab hospitality, a majlis is essential.

Majlis Layout and Dimensions

A majlis consists of: backrests (along walls), seat bases (50cm deep), and floor cushions (for extra seating). My moroccan majlis dubai room is 4m x 4m. The backrest runs along three walls (height 80cm). The seat base is 50cm deep, 50cm high. The layout creates a U-shaped seating area. For a small room (under 3m x 3m), a single-wall majlis may be better. For large rooms, full U-shape or even 4-wall layout is possible.

Upholstery Fabrics for Majlis

Traditional majlis uses velvet, silk, or embroidered fabrics. My moroccan majlis dubai is upholstered in crushed velvet (deep red). The fabric is durable (50,000 rubs) and stain-resistant (treated). For a more traditional look, choose silk or brocade (but these are delicate). For family use, choose performance velvet. For a majlis that will be used daily, prioritize durability over pure tradition. My velvet has lasted 3 years with 5 children using it.

Foam for Majlis Seating

Majlis cushions are thick (15-20cm) and firm (40-50kg/m³ density). My moroccan majlis dubai seat cushions are 20cm thick, 45kg/m³ density — very firm. The backrest cushions are 15cm thick, 35kg/m³ (softer for leaning). For a majlis, firm cushions are traditional and prevent slouching. Test foam density before ordering. A good supplier will have samples. For elderly guests, consider adding a softer top layer (5cm of 25kg/m³ foam).

Custom Embellishments for Majlis

Traditional majlis has details: piping (contrasting color), nailhead trim (brass or silver), tufting (button detailing), and fringe. My moroccan majlis dubai has gold piping and brass nailhead trim. The cost for embellishments was 500 AED. For a more ornate look, add fringe (300-500 AED). For a modern majlis, skip embellishments and use clean lines. Choose based on your decor style.

Floor Cushions for Majlis

Floor cushions (individual large cushions) provide additional seating and flexibility. My moroccan majlis dubai includes 6 floor cushions (70cm x 70cm, 15cm thick). They are filled with high-density foam and covered in the same velvet. Floor cushions can be moved around the room as needed. For large gatherings, I bring them out. For daily use, they are stacked in a corner. Floor cushions cost 100-200 AED each.

Maintenance of Majlis Seating

Majlis upholstery is often light-colored (dust shows). I vacuum my moroccan majlis dubai weekly. For cushions, I rotate them monthly (distribute wear). For spills, I blot immediately. Every 12 months, I have the majlis professionally cleaned (500 AED). The velvet has held up well. For leather majlis, cleaning is easier (wipe spills). For fabric majlis, professional cleaning is essential. Choose fabric based on your maintenance preferences.
