Different Foam for Different Sofa Parts

Ask your foam supplier for a "comfort layer" (soft foam on top of firm foam) for extra plushness while maintaining support.

How to Know When Foam Needs Replacement

Signs of worn foam: you sink to the bottom of the cushion, you can feel the springs, the cushion stays compressed after you stand up, visible sagging (cushion no longer flat), and lumps or unevenness. My foam for sofa seats was clearly worn — I could feel the springs through the cushion. After replacement, the sofa is level and supportive. Don't wait too long; worn foam can damage the springs.

DIY vs Professional Foam Replacement

You can buy foam by the meter from fabric shops and cut it yourself. The cost is lower (100 AED per seat for foam only). But cutting foam precisely is difficult (requires electric knife). My foam for couch seats professional did it perfectly. They also installed the foam into the cushion covers (which is tricky). For a simple square cushion, DIY is possible. For shaped cushions (with curves or tufting), hire a professional.

High-Density vs Memory Foam for Sofas

Memory foam molds to your body (comfortable) but retains heat (can be hot in Dubai). High-density foam is cooler and provides more support. For Dubai's climate, high-density foam is better. I tested memory foam bulk in a sofa — it was too hot. I chose high-density instead. For sofa foam, prioritize support and cooling over softness. You can add a "comfort layer" of soft foam on top of high-density foam for plushness without sacrificing support.
